As the expansion of the United States continued, the forests of the Northeast became depleted and other sources of lumber were required to fuel the growth.
The Saginaw Valley was one of the first areas in Michigan where sawmills were built due to the river system that made transportation of freshly cut logs economical.
Various artifacts, exhibits and displays depicting elements of the logging industry may be found scattered throughout the museum’s grounds. A good place to get started in your exploration, is right here in the main museum building.
